Go Local

Local Opportunities

Istrouma has the chance to make disciples of all nations, right here in our community. It's how we #go225!

International/College Park ministry

Internationals from many nations relocate to the Baton Rouge area. Our volunteers assist them with learning basic English and navigating a new culture.

  • Volunteer as a literacy assistant (afternoons/evenings)

  • Serve as a mentor

  • Provide transportation to ISO activities

  • Assist internationals with basic computer skills, filling out job applications, searching for employment opportunities, etc.

  • Help internationals navigate conversational English and social customs

Firm Foundations Tutoring

Firm Foundations is Istrouma's tutoring Ministry.  We work primarily with 4th and 5th graders at our "adopted" elementary school.  You don't need to be a teacher to participate.  All you need is a little patience and a big heart.

  • Tutor elementary-age kids

  • Wednesdays, 6:00pm-7:00pm at Istrouma

ESL (English as a Second Language)

Istrouma offers free conversational adult English classes to internationals living in our area.  We provide the training you need to help others learn to quickly improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills.

  • Help non-native speakers learn English

  • Wednesdays, 6:30pm-7:30pm at Istrouma (resumes August 16)

Baton Rouge Rehab Center

At Baton Rouge Rehab Center, our volunteers share lunchtime devotions each Tuesday. This #go225 opportunity is for men only.

Prison Ministry

  • Assemble care packages for inmates for holidays, etc.
