Pastor Updates

Senior Pastor Jeff Ginn and his wife, Nell, announced on Sunday, February 2, that they are re-entering the foreign mission field. Jeff will serve as the IMB Affinity Group Leader for the Americas. Click here to learn more about this region of the world and the IMB efforts there. The IMB, or International Mission Board, is a Southern Baptist entity devoted to sharing the gospel with people around the world. Your gifts to Istrouma help to support the IMB and missionaries around the world.

While we are sad to see the Ginns go, we are excited about how God will use them on a global scale to further his kingdom. They are living out our mission statement of glorifying God by making disciples of all nations!

Interim and Pastor Search

During the interim period, a Transition Team will meet regularly for general church leadership and serve as shepherds for the church. The Transition Team will consist of the four current Lead Team Pastors* and four church members, to be announced on March 1 and voted on by the church on March 15.

The Transition Team and Nominating Team will work together to appoint a Pastor Search Team. That team will then begin the search process and will make a recommendation to the church for the next Senior Pastor of Istrouma. The Pastoral Search Team will be approved and in place by the end of April, 2020.

A letter from Pastor Jeff

Please see below for Pastor Jeff's letter and information about what will take place during the transition.

Dear Church Family,
The privilege of serving our Lord at Istrouma has absolutely been one of the greatest joys of our lives. Nell and I love you deeply. Across the better part of the last decade, God has knit our hearts to yours in ways that will transcend the years and the miles. You have been as loving to us as pastor and wife as any church could possibly be. How we thank God for you!
For these reasons, it is with mixed emotions that I tender my resignation as senior pastor, effective March 1, 2020. I do so to respond to a clear call that Nell and I believe God has given us. We will again be missionaries with the International Mission Board. My specific role will be Affinity Group Leader for the Americas. This region stretches from Mexico, down through Central America and the Caribbean, to the tip of South America. I will also be a part of the Global Leadership Team which helps to set direction for our Great Commission endeavors globally.
We are confident in God that Istrouma is positioned well for the future, despite our deployment. I say that for three reasons. First, Istrouma has an exceptional membership. Our church is healthy, growing, and unified. Your faithfulness to truth and your readiness to tackle new challenges make pastoring you a joy!
Second, we have an exceptional staff. I know this first-hand after serving at their side across these years. They are both committed to the Lord and competent in their ministries. Our Lead Team will continue to provide overall pastoral direction. Mike Holmes, our executive pastor, will facilitate that team. In the near-term we anticipate the formation of both a Transitional Leadership Team (comprised of key lay leadership and the Lead Team) and a Pastor Search Team, both of which will be affirmed by congregational vote.
Third (and most importantly), we have an exceptional God! He has sustained our church for one hundred years, regardless of who has been pastor. He is our ultimate shepherd and in that fact we can rest secure.
During the celebration of our centennial, key voices have repeatedly said, “Istrouma’s best years are ahead.” Now, that’s saying something! But, you know what? I believe it! Let’s pray for that and do our part to make it a reality--all for the glory of God!
Your servants in Christ,
Jeff and Nell Ginn
